I’m Just a Bill

Schoolhouse Rock – I’m Just a Bill

Boy: Woof! You sure gotta climb a lot of steps to get to this Capitol Building here in Washington. But I wonder who that sad little scrap of paper is?

I’m just a bill.
Yes, I’m only a bill.
And I’m sitting here on Capitol Hill.
Well, it’s a long, long journey
To the capital city.
It’s a long, long wait
While I’m sitting in committee,
But I know I’ll be a law someday
At least I hope and pray that I will,
But today I am still just a bill.

Boy: Gee, Bill, you certainly have a lot of patience and courage.

Bill: Well I got this far. When I started, I wasn’t even a bill, I was just an idea. Some folks back home decided they wanted a law passed, so they called their local Congressman and he said, “You’re right, there oughta be a law.” Then he sat down and wrote me out and introduced me to Congress. And I became a bill, and I’ll remain a bill until they decide to make me a law.

I’m just a bill
Yes I’m only a bill,
And I got as far as Capitol Hill.
Well, now I’m stuck in committee
And I’ll sit here and wait
While a few key Congressmen discuss and debate
Whether they should let me be a law.
How I hope and pray that they will,
But today I am still just a bill.

Boy: Listen to those congressmen arguing! Is all that discussion and debate about you?

Bill: Yeah, I’m one of the lucky ones. Most bills never even get this far. I hope they decide to report on me favourably, otherwise I may die.

Boy: Die?

Bill: Yeah, die in committee. Oooh, but it looks like I’m gonna live! Now I go to the House of Representatives, and they vote on me.

Boy: If they vote yes, what happens?

Bill: Then I go to the Senate and the whole thing starts all over again.

Boy: Oh no!

Bill: Oh yes!

I’m just a bill
Yes, I’m only a bill
And if they vote for me on Capitol Hill
Well, then I’m off to the White House
Where I’ll wait in a line
With a lot of other bills
For the president to sign
And if he signs me, then I’ll be a law.
How I hope and pray that he will,
But today I am still just a bill.

Boy: You mean even if the whole Congress says you should be a law, the president can still say no?

Bill: Yes, that’s called a veto. If the President vetoes me, I have to go back to Congress and they vote on me again, and by that time you’re so old…

Boy: By that time it’s very unlikely that you’ll become a law. It’s not easy to become a law, is it?

Bill: No!

But how I hope and I pray that I will,
But today I am still just a bill.

Congressman: He signed you, Bill! Now you’re a law!

Bill: Oh yes!!!

Grace of Gods

Grace of God(s)
by Kevin Crosby
29 April 2009

[sung loosely to Redemption Song et al]
Bob Marley sung His redemption songs
Central Intelligence Agents played right along
The Director’s son sent him a pair of boots
Then Bob died of foot cancer, what a hoot!

Martin Luther King, Junior he had a dream
That our kids play together without a seam
Until some racist seems that he had a gun
And stole that God from us not so fun

Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom
Cause all we ever had
Redemption songs

[cut straight to Building a Mystery]
Our radios screaming loud
The prayers from our secret God(s)
6.5 in the Book of Matthew
Which the preachers never call

We’re having our tantrums
Seems a suicide race
Like Disney’s lemming lies before us
Accelerate that pace

We’re so beautiful
Each and every fucked up plan
Trying to wipe out each new Jesus
Thinking Christs are just a man

[cut to The Fear give or take]
That wants lots of money
Thinking oh they’re so clever; thinking they’re oh so funny
Buying all sorts of clothes and tossing lots to the honies

I heard people die while they’re trying find them
Spreading diseases around while screwing ’round nameless
Because some people think that’s how to become famous
I’ll look to the Son(s) and I’ll look to the sinners
Hope we’re on the right track, hope we’re onto some winners

[cut to Halo]
When The Wall came tumbling down
They always seem to put up a fight
They always want to make a sound
They lock our doors to keep us in
But we always seemed to have a doubt
Smoking Mother Nature: blow halos
Hippies have their Angel now

Writer’s block has been awakened
Every rule we’re always breaking
It’s the risk that we’re always taking
He ain’t never gonna shut you out

[cut to Something's Always Wrong]
Cause nothing’s changed at all

Hope we can feel
Much hope for anything
Cause we will be there to catch you if you fall

[cut to Colors]
Like a hopping mad dissident playground ball
I am black today
Shooting hoops standing proud and tall
I am green today
I chirp like mosquitoes in the classroom hall
I am gray today
Cellphone ringing loud, teacher can’t hear the call

[cut to Ironic]
Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think
A little too ironic
That I can’t even think

[cut to Possession]
Of voices trapped in yearning
Memories trapped in time
A Knight is my companion
Global Positioning my guide
What I’d spend on computers here
That’d they’d keep me alive

And I would be the one

[cut to Hands Held High]
With hands held high into a sky so blue
The ocean opens up swallow you

[cut to Only Happy When it Rains]
When it reigns?
I’m only happy when it’s complicated
I pray for your hope’s sake: appreciate it
I’m only happy when we reign

Pour your misery down
Pour more misery down the drain
Pour some misery down
Tour your melody sounds for free

[Chong soundbite from Earache my Eye]
Oh wow! That didn’t even hurt!

Self-Portrait (April 2006)

Self-Portrait
(April 2006)

He was a drunken gentleman
Broke laws all time but never sinned
Would never ever make more kin
And hardly ate his daily din

He huffed when he would walk the stair
Did nothing, hardly combed his hair
But trusting was his kindly stare
He wouldn’t fight you on a dare

Once upon a time he wrote
A simple limmerick from a bloke
And wondering should he have a smoke
Said what the hell because I’m broke

Two, three, four
Walk away
Go and earn some more pay
Before death sees your day
Because your wasting away

You’re not dumb
It’s like you’re sucking your thumb
You think you can have some fun
When your sickness’ a ton.

Why are we even living?
I mean, what’s the point, what to do?
Isn’t it to fight evil?
Or at least what the hell and try to beat the flu?

Another day it will be over
Did you make a buck, did you wage a war?
Who really cares if you’re dead by now?
‘Cause you’ll come back a cockroach if you ever ate cow

Four, three, two

If you should find yourself in hell
Dial skews me com h-t-m-l
I torture ‘serving souls as well
I wish that I had never Fell

The D-o-D they do know me
I loudly claim my blashphemy
And lately people gang stalk thee
Think I’m a creep? They don’t know Chi?

Yahoo, Google, MSN
Search will like me now and then
For people looking for my ven’
Some come back often, I am “in”

Why is the world seeming lazy?
I mean, so much war, and that oil’s a whore
Are are we even goin’ to get by this
When we flush precious fluids down the drain with a piss
